MILITARY INTELLIGENCE

Medal parade at the Military Intelligence College - 16 November 1990.

Please note: Everyone refers to the unit as MI, but the correct name is MID - Military Intelligence Division. Later the name was changed to ID - Intelligence Division. But for the page we will stick to MID.

MID INSIGNIA

The MID insignia consists of an Owl, the symbol of knowledge, wisdom and also vigilance, and a motto in Latin, " Vigilans et Sciens", which expresses this symbolic representation. Translated into English the motto means "Watching and Knowing".

The insignia, as it is worn on the cap and lapel, is in silver. In printing the owl appears in black on a white backgroung. Silver (heraldically represented by white) and black are the heraldic colours common to intelligence and represent the contrast between truth, knowledge, information and intelligence, and fallacy, ignorance and lack of knowledge.
